That Place You Love: Gimme Truth Project
Round-Up on Faith; Next-Up Credibility: Subscriber Housekeeping
Hola & Happy Friday from Sevilla!
I’m here with Eric to meet my dear, old friend Suzanne P. from Pittsburgh. I haven’t seen her in over twenty years, but the connection is strong. She got me a job at the Hunter College Writing Center when I was transitioning back to civilization from my 2.4 years in a Berlin squat, and the opportunity changed the course of my life. (Suzanne is passionate about creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind, sustainable landscapes using natural stone, native plants, and smart design.)
TPYL had a great turn out for the first Episode: Faith
I wrote about George Michael’s jeans, the Nazis, and how unnecessary lies can be a slippery slope into huge stories of (self)-deception.
Carole D wrote about one of my favorite subjects: poop! A small gesture is enough to question one’s deserving of another person’s faith in them.
Lisa H wrote about confession, accountability, and forgiveness post-lie and her participation in a trade of conflict.
Pascale W wrote about the dualism of faith & evidence and her few moments pretending to be the German pop singer Petra.
Intact Animal wrote about singing the lyrics of church songs he didn’t believe in at camp to meet girls and spend a week in nature.
Shirlé H wrote about her brother, Tall Tale Dave Hale, who held on tighter to his tall tales than his own truths.
Alex wrote about seducing neighborhood kids into his prank call shenanigans. A suction cup was involved.
AI wrote about growing up in the shadow of war and divorce and how lying (necessary or not) became a way to preserve self-agency into adulthood.
TAKE A MOMENT TO READ & HEART THESE WRITERS & PLEASE SHARE YOUR OWN UNNECESSARY LIE IN THE COMMENTS.
(We don’t comment on other people’s writing here. That’s for FB, IG, TT, TWIT.)
Next Up: Credibility.
On Monday, I’ll write about Credibility through the lens of truth and see what I come up with as a prompt. There’s a lot of room for deception when credibility is on the line…. something to consider ahead of Monday.
