That Place You Love: Real People. Real Stories.
Round-Up on Cooking; Next-Up Confusion. I don't know about you, but...
We didn’t realize we were going to the mall…
Until we hit the roundabout & Maps directed us into the parking garage of Nevada Shopping Center, a huge shopping mall in Granada.
Our goal was simple. House paint. That’s it.
We had walls repaired and needed to repaint the entire first floor.
We used to buy paint at Aki Bricolaje, a construction & renovation warehouse.
Aki was bought up by Leroy Merlin at some point. Leroy Merlin is a huge construction chain, like Home Depot. We knew it was off of the highway but we weren’t sure which exit.
Enter Google Maps.
As we passed the big Leroy Merlin sign off Exit 15, Maps directed us to Exit 16.
Nevada Shopping Center.
We haven’t been to a mall in ages.
They’re overwhelming, especially at Christmas.
There was no map or directory.
Just tons of stores with names that sounded made up.
Again with Google Maps… inside a mall!
We finally found Leroy Merlin, chose the paint to the annoying vocal melodies of canned Christmas songs, and decided that since we were there, we should replace our trashcan held together with duct tape.
Into the new IKEA we went to find the exact IKEA trashcan we’ve had for 10-years. It fits under our counter and has no pop-up lid.
We want the same thing that works.
Then the confusion of following the IKEA arrows. We never found a trashcan.
All of those mall & parking garage steps for two containers of Marron Café paint.
Brothers & Sisters, I don’t know what this world is coming to.

Carole D turns Aunt Arlene into a fairytale chef who transformed their kitchen with promises of flavors & smells to delight, as long as the clean-up crew was ready to make magic by clearing the scene.
Carol M honors dishes of her ancestors by transposing implied recipe steps into modern day instructions to share the joy of cooking with her 93-year-old mother.
Intact Animal revisits the volatile kitchen of the Bauhaus in the 90s & the tutelage he & Jeff enjoyed as laidback Americans under the helm of E.T.

Next Up: CONFUSION
It seems that as we’re nearing the end of the year, many things have become confusing. My deadlines. My phone calls & meetings. Directions.
“What day is it?” I ask my partner a few times a day.
Personally, I’m SO READY for this year to be over… yet, without rushing to New Years. There are still two weeks to savor…
